9 Days to Kickoff – Remembering TJ Fleming – Florala Wildcats

T,J. Fleming
To go with my Countdown for 9 days to kickoff…

I met this young man (Timothy James “TJ” Fleming) while I was broadcasting the Dixie Youth World Series in Sumter, SC, in August of 2009. We became friends that week.

TJ was from Lockhart, AL, and was a big-time athlete while playing multiple sports (football/basketball/baseball) for the Florala Wildcats. Upon graduation, he played baseball at Enterprise Ozark Community College; then transferred to Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, AL.

Every path he crossed along the way, you just couldn’t help but become his friend. His personality just lured you in.
Unfortunately, the following January, he was diagnosed with a rare form of glandular cancer at the age of 19. Even during his battle, he never complained and remained committed to his relationship with God.

TJ turned 20 on 14 Feb 2010. He fought a strong fight; but succumbed to this grueling disease on 25 May 2010.

By the turnout at his Memorial Service (which I attended); you could tell that this small rural community loved this young man. TJ came into this world for only a brief time; but he left an indelible mark that will live on with everyone that he encountered.

Timothy James (TJ) Fleming, 14 Feb 1990 to 25 May 2010…an inspiration to all!

RIP my friend…your memory will live on!
