There are ZERO days to kickoff…

In 1998, Kenny Hughes was the first Head Coach in Navarre Raiders history, this would be his only year at the helm. The Raiders played their very first varsity season that year as they participated with a Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Class. Before Navarre would get their first win in program history in Week 3, they lost the first two games to Straughn AL (25-14) and Liberty County (41-14).

Coach Danny Williams replaced Coach Hughes for 1999 season and in his third season he led Navarre to their first five win season.

Coach Larry Olson dialed in the Raiders first winning season in 2003 at 5-4. He also led the Raiders to their first playoff appearance in 2006 and then again in 2007.

Coach Chad Lashley garnered Raider Nation their first playoff win and first Region Finals appearance in school history in 2010.

Current Head Coach Jay Walls brought home their first two Region Titles and first two State Semifinal appearances in 2012 & 2016.

1 day to kickoff of the 2023 Florida HS football season as the Navarre Raiders will host the Catholic Crusaders on 25 Aug 2023 at the comfy confines of Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

1 game ago – Creekside 47, Navarre 20 (Playoffs – 2022)

Hunter Pfeister threw for 309 yards and a touchdown, Eddie Love Jr rushed for 112 yards and two TDs and Terence Marshall hauled in six receptions for 111 yards and a score, but it was not enough as the Raiders season came to end, finishing up at 8-3.

Navarre’s defense just couldn’t stop the Creekside offensive onslaught. Sophomore QB Sean Ashenfelder completed 22 of 29 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown, he also rushed for 128 yards on 14 carries and three more scores. Nicholas Williams led the rushing attack with 236 yards on 25 carries and a TD, while Ashton Reynolds led the receiving corps with 95 yards on six receptions.

Dwayne Clark Jr paced the Raiders defense with a dozen tackles in his last game and Dante Core added ten. Landon Mentzler had the lone sack on the night.

First win in program history – Navarre 27, Freeport 6 (1998)

This was the only time that these two teams have met on the gridiron. Navarre registered their first win in school history after falling in their first two games. The Raiders went on to finish 4-5 in their first year of varsity action. They were outscored on the season, 303-197.

Tonight will be the inaugural Buffalo Wild Wings Coaches Show from Buffalo Wild Wings in Navarre at 8 PM. If you can’t come out and catch the show in person, you can log onto IrishBillSports.com or via YouTube at Irish Bill Sports Live.

Normally, you would catch Irish Bills Twist on Sports at this time, but that show has been moved to Tuesday night at 8 PM (still at Culvers of Navarre).

So, join Bob Grant and myself every Wednesday. Navarre Head Coach Jay Walls will join us as well as other Navarre Raider assistant football coaches. Who knows, we might even get a visit from a current Navarre Raider football player.

The Eagles defense limited the Raiders to 142 total yards of offense in the contest. Harrison Orr had a near perfect night as he went 16-19 for 169 yards and Deangelo Shorts (25 carries, 189 yards, 3 TDs) and Christian Caballero (8 carries, 39 yards, 2 TDs) did all the damage on the ground.

Hunter Pfeister passed for 101 yards and a TD with Jaden Reese (2 receptions/53 yards) on the receiving end of his touchdown pass. Eddie Love Jr tallied the other score for Navarre. The Raiders were only able to run 33 plays in the game while the Eagles controlled the time of possession.

Navarre had four defenders with double digit tackles: Connor Black (14), Andre Spence (11), Joshua Wilson and Trey Bragg with 10 each. Chase Marsh had the lone sack in the game and Taylor Gardner went 2-2 on extra points.

2nd win in program history – Navarre 41, Catholic 40 (5 OT) – (1998)

The Raiders have gone into overtime six times during the 24-year history of the program; this is the only game that has gone into five overtimes.

After falling behind at the half on the road, the Raiders outscored the Dolphins, 21-14 in the second half to take the district title back home to Navarre.

Hunter Pfeister went 14-21 for 244 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing TD as well. His favorite target on this night was Terence Marshall as he hauled in eight receptions for 183 yards (second all-time in Raider history) and a touchdown. Jaden Reese provided the other TD reception.

Eddie Love Jr returned to the Navarre line-up, while still recovering from a nagging injury, but still managed 87 yards on 23 carries. Connor Mathews tacked on a touchdown run of his own as well.

Joshua Wilson led the Navarre defense with nine tackles and a sack and Dwayne Clark Jr produced eight.

3rd win in program history – Navarre 35, Carabelle 34 (2 OT) – (1998)

This was the only meeting between these two teams. Carabelle High eventually closed, and Franklin County High School was opened in 2008. The school is in Eastpoint, Florida, just east of Apalachicola.
