26 games ago – Navarre 26, Pine Forest 25 (2018)

Box Score
Pine Forest…6 6 6 7 – 25
Navarre….3 13 3 7 – 26

The Raiders (5-0) fell behind early as the Eagles Ladarius Clardy hit Eric Young on a 82-yard score just 59 seconds into the game. Navarre would finally get on the board when Dante Wright split the uprights from 29 yards out and the first quarter ended with Pine Forest on top 6-3.

Raiders took their first lead early in the second when Wright found the end zone from 11 yards out. The Eagles would answer back with 3:32 to go in the first half on a Clardy 28-yard run. But, Navarre took back the lead with 1:23 on the clock on a Chris Williams 12-yard run….16-12 Raiders at the half.

In a back and forth game, Clardy scampered in from 28 yards out six minutes into the third to put Pine Forest back in the lead, but the Eagles couldn’t convert on their third straight extra point. Three minutes later, Wright hit his second field goal of the night (30 yards) and the Raiders led after three, 19-18.

With the rain continuing to fall, Pine Forest reclaimed the lead when Anwar Lewis split the Raider defense for a 46-yard touchdown run and the Eagles led 25-19 with 4:25 left. Fear not though, as Navarre got the ball back and moved meticulously down the field getting down to the Eagles 10 yard line with under a minute to play.

The Eagle defense did their job and forced Marlon Courtney to throw a desperation pass on fourth down into the end zone, an Eagle defender was there for the interception, but the wet ball slipped off his hands into Tyler England’s in the back of the end zone for the win.

Courtney went 15-23 for 204 yards and a score and England had one of his best games in a Raider uniform with five receptions for 84 yards. On the ground, Chris Williams had a big night with 30 carries for 181 yards. Pine Forest’s Clardy completed 7-17 for 161 yards and produced 152 yards on 19 carries.

The Navarre defense had 11 tackles for loss, with Jordan Jefferson leading the way with three. Alex Gilchrist, Peyton Law and Xayvion Thomas each added a sack.

Just a few weeks ago, Ladarius Clardy was tragically killed in a shooting in Pensacola. He was a sophomore at Kennesaw State University, may he rest in peace.

The Raiders (3-0) came out flat in the first half and the Bulldogs took advantage of it and went to the half up 28-0. Jay Stanton got the scoring started with a 68-yard TD run and the Voisin brothers had back to back 69-yard TD receptions to end the first quarter scoring. Marquis McCoy would add a 29-yard TD reception in the second quarter.

Navarre finally got on the board on a 3-yard run by Dante Wright at the 8:24 mark of the third quarter, but the Raiders still trailed 28-7 going to the fourth. At 9:59, Wright scored his second from 10 yards out and two minutes later, Josh Carter would score from 8 yards out to cut the lead to 28-20. Navarre got the ball back and Carter tallied his second rushing TD of the game and with a successful two-point conversion, the game was tied at 28. The Raiders were not finished as Wright gave them the lead on a 11-yard run with 2:07 on the clock.

That was enough time for the Bulldogs to drive down the field and tie the game up with 33 seconds left on a 3-yard run by Stanton sending the game to overtime. Crestview went on offense to start the overtime period, but the possession was short lived as Carter stepped in front of a Jack Corbin pass and now all the Raiders needed was a score of any type to pull off the comeback win. The Raiders (9-1) faced off with the Eagles for the second consecutive week, which turned out to be an old fashioned shootout. Both quarterbacks had huge nights in the contest; Sage Chambers for Navarre and Jack White for Niceville. But it was the Raiders defense that stepped up big in the waning moments to stop the Eagles two-point conversion that would have tied up the game and sent it to overtime.

Chambers finished the night with the second most passing yards in a game in Navarre history as he went 19-24, for 380 yards and four touchdowns. Dante Wright hauled in four receptions for 144 yards and three touchdowns and Quinn Caballero had seven receptions for 107 yards. Garren Harper contributed a 55-yard touchdown reception.

Additionally, the Raiders received help from the ground game as Omari Green had 18 carries for 96 yards and 52 yards on seven carries for Chris Williams. Josh Carter, Wright and Chambers all had a rushing touchdown.

Jack White did his best Tim Tebow impression, but it came up just a little bit short. He went 12-21 passing for 225 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 190 yards on 15 carries and two scores. The Eagles rushed for 350 yards in the game. Ryan Romair added six receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown.

Cade Taylor led the defense with 9 tackles (6 solo/3 assists) and Carter aided with 7 tackles (6 solo/assist). Mitchell Hunt ended the night with four quarterback hurries and Kevin Taich went 7-7 on extra points.
